The Board carries out the aims and purposes of CASA, manage and promote its programs, and manage and control all of its property and assets.

The Board is composed of not less than 15 individuals who have a demonstrated interest in child welfare issues and a commitment to the purpose and role of the CASA volunteers. Existing Board members submit names and/or resumes of potential members to the nominating committee, who make the recommendations to the Board. Board members shall hold office for a two year renewable term. A member may serve only 3 consecutive terms before rotating off.

The annual meeting of the Board shall be held in May of each year. Bylaws require the Board to hold a minimum of four meetings each year. The Boone County CASA Board holds bi-monthly general meetings with committees meeting monthly or as needed.

CASA BOARD MEMBER - JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Become knowledgeable about the organization.

•  Serve on a board committee.

•  Serve in a leadership position or undertake special assignments when asked.

•  Recruit possible nominees to the board who are women and men of achievement and who can make contributions to the work of the board and the organization.

•  Prepare for and participate in board and committee meetings.

•  Maintain confidentiality regarding the board's sessions.

•  Offer support and assistance to the director when appropriate.

•  Avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest that might embarrass the board or the organization and disclose any possible conflicts in a timely manner.

•  Exercise prudence with the board in the control and transfer of funds.

•  Read and understand the organization's financial statements.

•  Assist in resource development by supporting and participating in fundraising and other special events for the organization.
